On December 11, 2013, Hebei Normal University was sponsored to host the "Eighth foreign teachers and students Chinese language skills contest of Hebei Province" by the Office of Chinese Language Promotion and Education Department of Hebei Province in the provincial capital Shijiazhuang. The tournament compared with previous sessions has increased the assessment of the knowledge of Chinese culture, dictation of Chinese characters, ancient poetry recitation and explanations, impromptu speech in Chinese and the Chinese talent into four units. Although students of our school are into the medical profession, they were still well prepared for the Chinese talent contest. "Dragon Boat Melody" a song sung by our students, won the third prize in the competition. On the 21st of September, Professor Zhong Guangming of UTHSCSA (University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio) and Dr. Fan Huizhou of Rutgers University were invited to HBNU for academic exchange activities. Both professors gave a lecture on "pathogenicity and vaginal microbiome" and "Intrinsic and Extrinsic Factors that Regulate Chlamydial Infection" at the College of Medical Laboratory, room 301 of the Research building at the West Campus. 2013 graduate and medical students of the College of Pharmacy, Life Science Research Center and some teachers were present at the lecture. On 14th June, our school successfully conducted a new HSK examination. One hundred and ninety-three foreign students from different countries including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ghana, Mauritius, Sudan, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania and others sat for level 3 and 4 of the exams respectively. This has been the highest number of candidates recorded since the time the school first organized the HSK examination. The International Exchange Center and the University's Library staff being the organizers attached great importance to the exam, earnestly implementing the examination rules, organizing registration and system debugging of the test. On June 11th, the Educational Counselor of the Embassy of Pakistan, Mr. Navid Hassan attended a symposium organized by Pakistani students of HBNU at the Shaw Auditorium on the second floor of the school library. The director of the International Education and Exchange Center Mr. Xu Tong presided over the forum. There were more than 160 Pakistani students in attendance. At the forum, Mr. Navid Hassan spoke to the students about the profound friendship between China and Pakistan and also about the history of the diplomatic relation among the Pakistani students. Diwali is a Hindu festival of light celebrated annually which spiritually signifies light prevailing over darkness, good over evil, knowledge ove  ignorance and hope over despair. It has a 5-day celebration period. HBNU is one of the  top medical universities in China . This year fell on the 31st October and students of HBNU were not left out of the celebration as there are religious Hindu students on campus the majority from India, Nepal and South Africa. Due to the medical college of HBNU having a really tight schedule the students could only celebrate for two days.
